Wall Decor Series

Ep.02: Spice em’ up

It is impossible to have an interior space without the enclosure of walls. Those walls therefore need to look good. Today’s title speaks for itself. We are talking wall decor, bringing life back into your walls! Welcome to episode 2 of this series.

Colour contrast

Absolutely! Switch up your neutral wall paint to a bright yellow, or firy orange…or greeen, whatever your taste is. Commonly known as accent wall, one of the four walls, or a part of it,(see ideas), need to have a different colour from the rest to create interest. Of course, within you colour pallet.

Basket wall

Did someone mention woven, rattan?…coz this is my absolute favourite. This is why: the basket can so seamlessly be incorporated in so many interior decor style and would look perfect. Whether you are boho, boho chic, African, Scandi, vintage, nordic…the basket wall will most definitely bring that ‘wow factor’ to your walls. Choose interesting weave patterns, designs, colours and your walls won’t thank you enough. Detailed basketwall blog

Wallpapers

Depending on your taste and style wallpapers can really do it for you. Talk of adding texture, depth, character and edginess to your space. They can also help you cover up ugly patches or stains on your paint work. There are tones of designs to choose from to elevate your walls; plain, 3D, textured, patterned you you name it. However, one needs to be careful with the kind of glue used and the installation. You don’t want to damage the walls by peeling off the paintwork where you decide to take down the wallpaper, especially if you are renting space. You can opt for professional installation and take-down to avoid problems with your landlord.

So much texture that adds visual weight and makes this spot look more grounded.

Art work

Need I say much on this really? Find pieces that resonate with you and use them on your walls. It doesn’t have to be on a wall to be wall decor, it can also be against the wall, think sculptures framework etc.

The wall behind the console would have definitely been ‘just a wall’ were it not for the piece that also doubles up as a mirror.

No more naked walls
