A basket wall is a form of wall art where you put up the traditional mats, baskets or winowing trays made of weaving material, on a wall in a preferred creative collage. The basket perfectly fits the bohemian interior decor style but can be incorporated in any other.

People have become more creative in coming up with contemporary baskets, like in the photo below. Better and well finishing material have also been discovered and are now in use. That means you are not limited to only the tradition baskets.

Weaving material
Material for basketry ranges all the way from sisal, papyrus reed, bamboo, sea grass, to plastic (and many more).
Decoration
Forms of decoration are limitless as is creativity. It could be in the addition of pattern by alternating of material or material colour, weaving pattern, addition of colour by painting and incorporating other decorative aspects like bead and leather details.

I could say the basket wall is slowly replacing the classic gallery wall where you fill up a wall with framed photos. Or it may just be in vogue. Either way, I think it is more artistic and playful. The weave adds texture to your walls. It could also create that point of interest and twist I talked about in Ideas To Make Your Interior Spaces Stand Out.

Another plus on the basket wall is versatility. Whether it is texture, size, colour or design/ pattern, there are a gazillion options to choose from. I mean just imagine how many native communities there are that make woven items, all the types of material that can be used…

Where to get baskets
These baskets can be found in lots of places: decor stores, thrift stores, or even your local market.
Instead of purchasing, you could choose to make and customize them yourself.
